Secretary’s Report
Once again we have had an interesting year regarding the events put on by the committee. I would like to thank the other members of the committee for their input and assistance in putting together the programme of events.
Just to run through the events from last year: - we had a new venue for the annual meal, which we thank Eric Benton for organising the evening enjoyed by all those attending.
Pete Wilkinson gave us an insight into Green Peace UK, Rodney Chadburn and Trevor Branton provided the next two presentations the first being an early overview of incentives being provided for electrical and heat generation and a very interesting look at the building of Sizewell “A”.
Our trip last year was to Nottingham University organised by Rehau, who had been involved with the project. This proved to be extremely interesting as we were able to view 4 of their 5 project buildings, which are occupied by students and monitored by the University for their studies.
Our Breakfast Seminar was well attended and the talk by Lotus Engineering appeared to be well received explained how they perceive what may happen in the future of transport fuels. My thanks to Maggie Fisk for stepping in to cover the Breakfast Seminar, especially with the labels.
We followed the Breakfast Seminar with a visit to University Campus Suffolk Liz Wagner Dempster showing us round the new Waterfront Building and a presentation on Breeam and Sustainable Homes in October and November.
My thanks to Peter Dring for once again auditing the accounts for us; I will go through his letter later in the agenda.
Thanks to the East of England Co-op Education Centre for our venue. We are concerned as to the continued use of the facility from April 2011, we may have to look for alternative venues if things change.
Membership appears to be maintained from last year with one or two new members. We could do with some younger members as the average age of the membership is rising.
Randal Fisk stated that the end of the financial year is now the 31st July and that the accounts do not tally with the AGM period, hence the accounts that have been audited are only up to July 2010.
We had 23 paying members, which provide the total income for the group. Expenditure is mostly the use of the East of England Co-op Education Centre, where we hold our presentations. Advertising is only on the WEB site. We had a deficit of £1.39 on the annual dinner. Wilkinson Environmental presentation resulted in a cost for expenses for the talk at the 2009 AGM.
A summary sheet of the accounts was handed out showing a surplus on the year of £9.75, resulting in a balance of £3,100.27 at the end of July 2010.
Mike Foley asked if the accounts had been audited. The accounts have been audited to the satisfaction of the Auditor, which had been confirmed to Mick Hillebrandt on the 18th January 2011.
Trevor Branton asked if the advertising using the WEB was an annual cost. This was confirmed by Randal Fisk.
Mike Foley stated that the balance of between £2.5k and £3k was maintained and this covered the cost of the Breakfast Seminar.
The accounts were proposed by Rodney Chadburn.
The accounts were seconded by Roy Rogers.
Mike Foley thanked the Committee, especially this year due to his pressure of work, which has led to more dependency on other members of the committee.
2010 had been a good year regarding energy and environmental issues.
Mike reiterated that the average age of the members is increasing and we could do with some younger members but they are all highly involved with their work commitments at this time. He believes we provide a good local base of information, we could try to combine a meeting with other groups such as CIBSE.
Mike thanked Maggie Fisk for helping with the Breakfast Seminar registration etc. Also John Miller for saying a few words at the annual dinner and Peter Chisnall for work on the WEB site and environmental issues.
Mike then ran through the rest of the events planned for the 2010/11 session. Iain Dunnett will be speaking about “Suffolk Greenest County”, which is a major effort by Suffolk Council.
We have a talk from Carbon Chain Ltd about anaerobic digestion, Suffolk provide opportunities for this. Feed in Tariffs make it a very attractive idea. Our younger members would benefit from this presentation, Adnams supply gas direct into the main gas supply.
Our annual dinner is on the 5th March, we are repeating last year’s venue as it was very well received. We try to have corporate tables along with member’s tables. Eric Benton will be sending out invitations soon, all are welcome.
Baxi will be talking and demonstrating their wall hung micro CHP later in March and in April we plan to visit a PassiveHause at Rochford. Peter Chisnall is studying to become a PassiveHause designer.
The May visit could be Slovakia to look at a central heating scheme, we may be able to interact with other companies, details are to be confirmed.
Peter Chisnall will be taking over the running of the WEB site, where you can find key pieces of information and the form for joining the group, some members work for large organisations and they could encourage their colleagues about the group
Once again Mike thanked Bower Fuller for their offer of sponsorship for the Breakfast Seminar and hoped it may be forthcoming again this year if we manage to obtain the right presenters. If anyone wants to offer sponsorship or links with other organisations, we would be pleased to hear from them.
The Auditor Peter Dring could not attend the meeting but we have had his report in which he states that he is satisfied that the information provided provide a true and accurate record of the financial affairs of the SEEEG for the year ending July 2010.
Election of New Committee Members
Eric Benton has agreed that he will stand down as Vice Chairman but remain on the committee if the group want to elect Peter Chisnall in his place, which is proposed by the committee. This was seconded by Trevor Branton. It was proposed by Roy Rogers and seconded by Rodney Chadburn to re-elect the rest of the present committee en bloc.
Mike Foley stated that he was pleased to welcome Peter to the position of Vice Chairman.
